Canadian Solar secures a supply agreement to provide U.S.-manufactured solar modules (from the upcoming Mesquite plant) to Sol Systems, validating market demand for its local production capabilities.
Canadian Solar announces plans for a $712 million battery manufacturing plant in Shelbyville, Kentucky, USA—Shelby County’s largest economic development project to date. The 1-million-square-foot facility will initially produce 3GWh of utility-scale batteries, with a second phase to double production capacity.
CSI Solar’s production capacities for ingots, wafers, cells, and modules reach 25GW, 31GW, 48GW, and 61GW respectively. Recurrent Energy’s global project pipeline expands to 27GWp of solar projects and 65.9GWh of energy storage projects.
2023
CSI Solar (Canadian Solar’s manufacturing subsidiary) completes its IPO on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, raising approximately RMB 6 billion ($840 million) to fund production capacity expansion. Concurrently, Canadian Solar announces plans to build its first U.S. solar module factory in Mesquite, Texas—a $250 million investment expected to create 1,500 jobs and produce 5GW of modules annually.
Canadian Solar rebrands its utility-scale battery energy storage subsidiary from CSI Energy Storage to "e-storage." Its two automated e-storage factories begin supplying solutions to markets including the U.S., Canada, the UK, and China.
Canadian Solar unveils plans for a $800 million, 5GW solar cell production facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, USA. The facility is projected to create 1,200 jobs and supply solar cells to the Mesquite module factory.

Recurrent Energy—Canadian Solar’s global arm for solar and energy storage project development, ownership, and operation—relocates its headquarters to Austin, Texas, USA. This relocation optimizes service delivery for key North American markets and speeds up project execution efficiency.
2017
Canadian Solar lists the Canadian Solar Infrastructure Fund Inc. (CFSI) on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The initial public offering (IPO) of 177,800 investment units (priced at JPY 100,000 per unit) raises funds to acquire 13 solar power facilities in Japan with a combined capacity of 72.7MWp, deepening its commitment to the Asia-Pacific market.
2015
Canadian Solar acquires Recurrent Energy—a leading solar project developer—from Sharp Corporation for approximately $265 million. This acquisition adds a high-quality global project pipeline and strengthens expertise in solar project ownership and operation, accelerating the company’s global market penetration.
2010
Canadian Solar expands into utility-scale solar project development, transitioning from a pure manufacturing entity to an integrated renewable energy solutions provider. By the end of the year, its solar module production capacity reaches 1GW, securing a position among the world’s top five solar module manufacturers.
